Rights v Privileges

• Natural Rights:

  • universal (applies regardless of culture or customs)

  • fundamental (enjoys a high degree of protection)

  • inalienable (non-repealable, non-transferable, but can be forfeited)

• Legal Rights / Privileges:

  • bestowed upon a person (natural person or legal person) through positive law

  • for example, licensing, allodial title
